Friendship Hose Company #1, Falls CreekThe Falls Creek Fire Departments History dates back to 1895, one hundred years after the first roads, mills and houses were first built through out the area. 29 Past Chiefs and 106 years later, we are still housed in the same fire hall that our fellow fire fighters purchased in 1939. Although our station has been renovated, enlarged and well taken care of since then, more and more responsibility gets placed on the lap of the fire/ems personell of the world and we are out growing our current fire station, so, we are currently looking for a plot of land that we can build a new and modern fire station, so we can keep up with the fire/ems world around us.Falls Creek and Washington TownshipFalls Creek and Washington Township are our primary coverage area's. Falls Creek is about 0.93 square miles and made up mostly as a residential district. While Washinton Townships surface is about 50 square miles and nearly 1/12 of the surface of Jefferson County as a whole. It is 7 miles long North to South and 9 miles wide East to West. Within these area's of coverage we are primarily responsible for 20 miles of Interstate 80, The Dubois, Jefferson County Airport, Many miles of State, Borough, and Township roads and hi-ways, business and residential districts, many farms, industrial strip mines, a lake, many miles of railroad, two bottled gas companies, powdered metal plants, a golf course, etc.... and we provide mutual aide to our surrounding communities. THE FIREMANS PRAYER When I am called to duty, God, Wherever flames may rage, Give me the strength to save some life, Whatever be its age. Help me embrace a little child Before it is too late, Or save an older person from The horror of that fate. Enable me to be alert And hear the weakest shout, And quickly and effeciently To put the fire out. I want to fill my calling and To give the best in me; To guard my every neighbor and Protect his property And if, according to your will, I have to lose my life, Please bless with your protecting hand My children and my wife. | |
